Full time, part time, or casual? - Full-time

What is your role in your job and what are some typical duties?
I help patients with their weight loss program and support them in their progress.  I give encouragement when needed and praise their success when they achieve their goal.  I am also responsible for staff and running the clinic, with the help of a great Office Manager.

Have you had to do any additional education in order to do what you are doing?
No, I was trained on site at the office on what I needed to know (a 3 week orientation).  I have had a lot of other training in supervising though, with working in the Cadet System.

What are your usual hours of work and do you work overtime?
Monday to Friday ---06:30-14:30, and yes I have worked overtime but it is an unusual occurrence.

What made you apply for this job?
Honestly, I was not happy at my last job (employer).  There had been some changes within the facility and the Administrator would not let staff know.  We were only told that there where no patients to keep the floor going.  As patient’s where discharged the floor was closed.  I was actually considering getting out of nursing all together and going back to school to become a lab technician.  I then saw this article for Dr. Bernstein’s Diet & Health Clinic, as I have never done anything in nursing like this, I thought this could be very interesting for me, and now I love supporting people with their weight loss.

What makes your job unique from others?
I help clients with losing weight and give them much encouragement to achieve this goal & support them in their progress.

Are you part of an interdisciplinary team?
Dr. Bernstein, Head Office, Resource Team and the staff at the clinic level.

What do you like most about your job?
What I like most about my job is helping people achieve a goal that they may not be able to do on their own, or support them in achieving a goal that they may have decided for themselves and achieve it.

What motivates or inspires you in your nursing career?
My motivation is helping individuals in whatever their need is and supporting them in what decisions that they make for their life to better it.

What are your long term goals in your nursing career?
Right now not sure, I will continue to support the patients at the clinic and take joy in their successes.

What other nursing courses have you taken or are you taking currently and why did you choose to take these courses?
I have taken many courses throughout my nursing career, and enjoyed each and every one of them.  I have taken the Psychiatric Nursing for the RPN (LPN, in BC), and was very intrigued, and wanting to learn more, so at this point I am now in a Forensic Nursing Course with George Brown College in Ontario.  I have completed 2 of the 4 courses for this program and this will allow me to work with agencies:  such as police and sexual assault, etc.

Additional Comments
I would like to pass on to all LPN’s you do a great job.  There is the world out there for you to explore and be knowledge and to expand your knowledge by taking extra courses throughout the year.
